The anime is adapting the Hell Instructor Nube manga, initially serialized within the Weekly Shonen Bounce from 1993 to 1999. Sho Makura wrote the story, whereas Takeshi Okano did the artwork. The duo labored on the Hell Instructor Nube Neo (Grand Bounce, 2014-2018) and Hell Instructor Nube S (Saikyo Bounce, 2018-2021) sequels.

The franchise obtained a TV anime adaptation, a number of motion pictures, and a three-episode OVA by Toei Animation within the Nineties.
